Mindset and Emotional Wellbeing

This workshop essentially equips students with the emotional skills and attitudes that will help them to experience success at school. These are based around the ideas covered in the Mighty Minds’ Wheel of Success model.

Skills Across the Curriculum

Especially designed for the new assessment system, this workshop is all about helping students to successfully tackle assessment tasks.

This workshop includes information about:

  • How to prepare for your ATAR exam – exam stress
  • Breaking down ISMGs
  • Putting things into perspective
Problem-solving and Lateral Thinking

This workshop has activities that are designed to improve students’ ability to think creatively in order to solve problems. We provide proven methods for undertaking problems successfully. This workshop can be targeted at specific subjects.

Developing the Scope and Depth of Responses – cognitive thinking

All ATAR subjects require students to communicate their ideas effectively through a written medium. In order to achieve top marks, students will need to be able to demonstrate depth and scope of thought.

This workshop will cover:

  • Introduction to critical and creative thinking and its importance in everyday life
  • Cognitive Skills and the associate skills to apply them
  • Steps for breaking down and responding to a question
  • Example questions and time to practise responding

WRITING SKILLS WORKSHOPS

These workshops break writing down into a manageable, step-by-step process. They can be adapted for a variety of writing styles and year levels.

Writing – Idea Generation

Based around analytical writing, this workshop provides students with strategies for generating ideas and gives them opportunities to practise being creative in response to various stimuli.

Writing – Editing, Proofreading and Fundamental Literacy

Writing – General (The six-stages of the writing process)

We recommend this workshop as an alternative to the more detailed sessions outlined above, however it could also occur in conjunction with one or two of the more specialised writing workshops. The workshop covers Mighty Minds’ six stages of writing: idea generation, planning, drafting (text structure and language features), Editing and putting together the final product. Generally, we would recommend an analytical focus, however there is the potential to explore other genres if requested. Students will complete short activities based on each step in the process.
